Indoor Dog training classes

All classes take place on a Monday evening and The Oval community centre. We pride ourselves on our classes being fantastic value for money, most importantly the dogs and owners have fun whilst learning.

Puppy class 6pm

The main aim of our puppy class is to teach basic obedience and socialisation.

We do not run a course as such as we have found that different dogs learn at different speeds and this is also very dependent on how much time the owner puts into training whilst at home.

During this class you will be taught the basics such as sit, down, stand, we also show you how to teach your pup to leave, for example a piece of food or toy. We also do a lot of recalls in this class as getting your dog to recall to you is one of the most important commands. We do these as basic recalls where you have to call your dog to you from the other end of the hall, when you have mastered this we will do the same recalls but with distractions, E.g. toys in the path of your dog.Towards the end of the lesson we always finish with some fun so we use the tunnel and some football cones, the puppies have to run through the tunnel then find a hidden treat under a football cone, this seems to be the favourite bit for most puppies!

Junior classes 6.45pm & 7.35pm

Our junior classes are for puppies that have passed their assessment or for older dogs that  have already learnt the basics. By this stage we expect the dog to be able to wait/ stay (without their lead being held) for a short period.

We use a lot of distractions during the recalls and stays in this class. We will also give be able to give advice and a variety of ways to recall you dog if you are struggling whilst out on walks. You will also be able to practice 'door control' during some sessions using a gate which enables us to teach your dog to allow you to enter/exit through a door way first. We have a variety of agility equipment in this class such as tunnels, jumps, a see saw, and an A frame. We incorporate these into your training sessions.

Advanced class 8.40pm

Our advanced class is for dogs that excel in the junior class and like to be pushed that bit further. During this class we concentrate on teaching the dogs to respond at a much quicker rate and to be focused on the owner waiting for their next instruction. We do a lot of off lead heel work in this class, which gives the owners a chance to practice in a safe environment whilst there are the distractions of the other dogs and handlers.

As with the junior class we use all of our agility equipment and generally finish up with a small agility course for the dogs and handlers to go round.
